Lost Soul

Come inside my friend
And grab a chair
Let me tell you about
The man who wasn’t there
He spent his days alone
Sweeping up the past
A life away from everything
Had come along at last
His friends had all moved on
Chasing what they’re running from
The world they left behind
Never seemed to get along
In his hands he carried
All the damage he had done
Then he slowly let it all go
As he walked into the sun
Why do you look so worried
He’s doing fine
Have you seen the latest pictures of his life
They’re up online
I’d heard that he was looking for
A life without a care
So we left it all to meet him
But the man we came to see
Was never there
Another quiet night
Staring at the sky
Another lazy day
Slowly passes by
The Winter birds return
Riding on the breeze
Watching his reflection as they
Hide among the trees
A fire in the corner burns away the cold
He’d like to go on living
But he’s tired of being old
A picture on a wall hides a troubled past
The ruined house in black and white
Is finally coloured in at last
Why do you look so worried
He’s doing fine
Have you seen the latest pictures of his life
They’re up online
I’d heard that he was looking for
A life without a care
So we left it all to meet him
But the man we came to see
Was never there

Some People

Take your time and breathe it in
This life is full of love within
We’ll stay forever young together
If that’s our thing does it get any better
Fallen leaves and dying trees
Can bring a good thing to it’s knees
If all these things are what they seem
Then I’ll make do with living without you
Some people are made to find their equal
If it’s all the same to you
I will rarely do what I’m supposed to do
Some people will always need an equal
Like a rainbow needs the rain
I agree but I will leave it all the same
Silent screams of forgotten dreams
This life is never what it seems
With each new pain I’ll try again or
Perhaps it’s best I take a rest ‘cos
Tomorrow’s a new day as all my friends say
Look at the old world in a new way
And I’ll be right here in the meantime
Just me myself and I we’re just fine
Some people are made to find their equal
If it’s all the same to you
I will rarely do what I’m supposed to do
Some people will always need an equal
Like a rainbow needs the rain
And I agree but I will leave it
Some people are made to find their equal
If it’s all the same to you
I will rarely do what I’m supposed to do
Some people will always need an equal
Like a rainbow needs the rain
And I agree don’t get me wrong
It’s just not for me

Our Lives

In the little pocket of my jeans
Was a folded piece of paper
At the top was the name of a nightclub
A name and number
Scribbled in the middle
I’m happy you called she said
Today I’m staying in bed
That’s a good idea I said
‘Cos the traffic’s bad and
I’m stuck here in the middle
Would you like to have a coffee with me sometime
That would be nice she said
I know a great little place with a terrace
I’ll get us a table
Somewhere in the middle
Tomorrow at ten I said
Sounds like a plan she said
And if the weather’s nice then maybe
We can take a walk along the river
Did you mean it when you said that you liked me
I never really hear that kind of thing you see
Of course I did she said and then we
Talked a little more about our lives
Sunday morning Summertime
Just as the clocks are changing
Just like the day we met and
Today your smile is just as beautiful
Life is good she said
Let’s just stay in bed
That’s a good idea I said
With our little daughter
Snuggled in the middle
Did you mean it when you said that you love me
I never really hear that kind of thing you see
Of course I did she said and then we
Talked a little more about our lives
