about

Paul Lappin Bristol, UK

"In the late 80's and early 90's I was really into the UK baggy indie scene; The Stone Roses, The Charlatans, James, Northside etc. That was my music, my era, and then one day I woke up and it was gone, replaced by Grunge and Britpop. I guess I just want to make music that takes me back to those halcyon "Madchester" days, and continue where it left off." ... more

Track Name: Daylight
Where is the daylight?
What’s this shadow we’re living in?
In a world full of strangers
is anyone listening?
I sit on my fingers
and wait for another day.
Take all the papers,
I’m done with them anyway.

Lock the door,
you don’t need to leave here anymore.
There’s a room with a view upstairs
if you need it.

There’s a storm on the way,
I can feel it.
Is it all gonna fall apart
when I need it?
Track Name: Sophia
I heard that you were feeling down
I’m sure that things will turn around.
I like to think that we’re still friends
And it’ll work out in the end.

Sophia,
I’ll be the someone that you can lean on
I’m right here.
I hate to think of you so sad.

Just because we’re living separate lives,
I hope a little part of us survives.
You were always there for me.
so if you feel a little blue
I’m here to help you see it through.

Sophia,
I’ll be the someone that you can lean on
I’m right here.
It’s been a while but I still care,
I’ll be right there.
I hate to think of you so sad.
Just reach out to me
and I will try to make you feel alright again.
Track Name: Better Now
A friend of mine was done with time,
so he gave it all to me.
He said “Son you’d better not waste it all,
time like this ‘aint free”.

Breathe it in (can you hear it?)
Turn it up (let it out)
Have a drink (if you wanna)
or do you feel better now?

Maybe I just wanna fly
And use it all today.
But some might say it’s a waste of time,
‘cos time flies anyway.

Breathe it in (can you hear it?)
Turn it up (let it out)
Have a drink (if you wanna)
or do you feel better now?
Track Name: Chasing Rainbows
When everything fills the sky
and you wanna fly
but your arms are tied
can you feel it?
You smile when you wanna cry
and you don’t know why
but you start to think
did you dream it?

Did everything feel the same
when you got the blame
but you sat there and took it anyway?
Look at the funny side;
it was you who lied
and you’ll live to see
another day.

Where’s the humanity that you read about?
Where are the smiling eyes that you dream about?
I guess for now you’re chasing rainbows.

Maybe it’s not so bad.
All the dreams you had
just might take a little bit longer.
I’m sure it’ll be just fine,
just take your time
all the pain will make you stronger.

Where’s the humanity that we read about?
Where are the smiling eyes that we dream about?
I guess we’ve both been chasing rainbows.
Track Name: Slow And Steady
I’ve been thinking of the past,
when I felt so lonely.
The less you want the more you have,
something you once told me.
There’s a sadness in your smile,
beneath those tired eyes.
But we’ll get through it all somehow,
things are different now.

I’ll be whatever you want
(I’m right here waiting)
I’ll be the rock that you need
(whenever you’re ready)
I’m staying right here
(we can take it)
so we can take it slow and steady.

I’ll be right by your side
(just tell me you need me)
I won’t leave you alone
(I’m here if you need me)
We’ve got plenty of time
(so we can take it)
so we can take it slow and steady.

I will hold your hand all night
if it stops you shaking.
Think of all the love we have,
and the life we’re making.
Things that happened in your past
will take time to fade.
Until then, just so you know,
we can take it slow.
Track Name: Country Songs And Lullabies
In a little house in the shade of a lemon tree,
lives a girl who’s never sad.
She doesn’t care that the world ignores her now,
her own little world is not so bad.

She sees the very best in everything.
She sees the goodness in the bad.
She turns her pain into the memories of her dad
and then she smiles, and thinks of all the
precious times that they once had.

Whenever she feels like she is all alone,
her dad is right there by her side,
singing country songs and lullabies
just like he did before he died.

She sees the very best in everything.
The sun still shines above the clouds.
And when the dust begins to creep into her eyes
she never cries. Instead she sings those
country songs and lullabies.
Track Name: Local Fool
The local fool sits on his stool,
a purple wine glass in his hand.
He sits alone and reads the papers
with a sadness on his face.

He takes the words right off the page
and turns them round inside his head.
They talk of change and progress,
His thoughts on which are better left unsaid.

Now and then he breaks a smile,
and lifts his glass up to the sky.
He shuts his eyes and he cries
“It’s you and me against this
modern world my friend.”

The local fool resists it all.
A stuborn rock against the tide.
He sips, and sighs, and cries
while the world keeps spinning
on and on and on.

I sit and watch him sip his wine,
a troubled soul in changing times.
And then I catch his eye,
two stubborn rocks this local fool and I.

Now and then he breaks a smile,
and lifts his glass up to the sky.
He shuts his eyes and he cries
“It’s you and me against this
modern world my friend.”
Track Name: Across The Water
Do you remember when we wrote a song?
I think you were seven,
and I was eleven.
I vagely remember playing up again.
I wish I could change it,
but I was young back then.

The memories are fading as I get older.
Like a distant calling from across the water

The memories below me are falling from the sky.
The less I remember,
the more I want to fly.
Growing older doesn’t bother me at all.
I’ve saved all the heartache
just to break the fall.

The memories are fading as I get older.
Like a distant calling from across the water

Oh man, I remember the day I felt alive.
My baby sister with a little boy inside.
And then there’s the weekend
and another world I’m shown;
A house in the old town
that became the family home.

The memories are fading as I get older.
Like a distant calling from across the water.
Track Name: You Came Along
When you called me up and told me
that you’d never felt this way before.
When you told me you could give me
all the love I’d never had before...

Did you mean it?
(You turned my life around then turned it upside down)
Really mean it?
(Just when I was feeling good about myself
you came along)
Did you mean it?
(You followed me around, went up when I was down)
‘Cos I didn’t feel it.
(Just when I was feeling good about myself
you came along)

When you held me tight and told me
that you never want to let me go.
When you said that all the others
never meant as much as I do now...

Did you mean it?
Really mean it?
Did you mean it?
‘Cos I didn’t feel it.

When you said that you were leaving,
did you think that I would change your mind?
When you told me you were sorry,
said that I was going to be just fine...

Did you mean it?
Really mean it?
Did you mean it?
Just when I was feeling good about myself
you came along.
Track Name: Blue And Gold
One more leaf lands on soil
I shiver as I watch it fall
Nights draw near, clear and cold
Nature paints in blue and gold

Rivers dry, vineyards sigh
Another Summer passes by
The birds look south, their wings unfold
And nature turns to blue and gold.
Track Name: Move On
I take another sip of wine, I find it helps to pass the time.
I watch the hills turn to gold and sit until the air turns cold.
Will it help me move on?
‘Cos I’ve been feeling like this for far too long.

I paint the view and breathe it in and write of things that burn within.
I fly to where the olives lie and swim beneath an orange sky.
Will it help me move on?
When will all the wrong be gone?

I put the past behind me,
but it always seems to find me.

I write a tune and play with it, I’ll even put some words to it.
I read somewhere that when you’re down
it sometimes helps to write it down.
Are you here to stay,
or will you fade away today?

I take another sip of wine, I find it helps to pass the time.
I think of all the good i’ve had, maybe things weren’t all that bad.
Do we ever move on?
Is who we are where we’re from?

I put the past behind me,
but it always seems to find me.

Move on, move on.
There’s more to see, so let me be.
Move on, move on.
Let the rain, bring the sun again.
Move on, move on.
Close the door to the world before.
Move on, move on,
move on, move on…
